Tribal School Adoption Program

Adopted tribal area schools in Anaikatty  a remote tribal village situated in the Western Ghats under Periyanaickenpalayam Block of Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu. The project implemented from 2016 to 2021s with the support of Larsen & Toubro through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The intervention aimed to improve access to quality education for tribal children by strengthening school infrastructure, create a child-friendly learning environment and promoting innovative teaching methods in government schools located in geographically challenging areas.

The schools in the tribal region faced some challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, lack of science learning facilities and limited access to modern educational resources. The project addressed these gaps through a comprehensive school development approach focusing on infrastructure improvement, educational support and enhancement of teaching-learning practices.

As part of the initiative science laboratories were strengthened with improved facilities and educational materials to encourage experiential learning and practical understanding of scientific concepts among students.  Smart boards were installed in selected schools to introduce digital and interactive learning methods, helping teachers deliver lessons in a more engaging and effective manner. The use of audio-visual teaching aids significantly improved student participation and interest in classroom activities.

The project also renovated 27 classrooms by repairing walls, flooring, roofing, ventilation, and painting, thereby creating a safe, attractive and child-friendly atmosphere for learning. Green boards were installed in classrooms to improve teaching effectiveness and classroom visibility. In addition, unsafe and damaged school structures were removed to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and teachers within the school premises
